About Play Therapy

About Play Therapy

Play therapy helps children work through difficult emotions. It helps them feel heard and seen. It often manifests in improved behaviour and performance at school or a reduction of overwhelming anxiety and anger. Working through the threads of the underlying feelings in play therapy can be deeply reparative. During the past 20 years Play Therapy has emerged, under the leadership of Play Therapy International (PTI) and its affiliate Play Therapy UK, as a distinct profession for alleviating the emotional, behaviour, learning and mental health problems of children. The British Government in April 2013 recognised the high quality of our standards through the approval of the PTUK Voluntary Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social care. This is a world first and sets a precedent for all other countries, including Indonesia.
